That Joyful Noise

That joyful noise was the sound of us laughing, telling stories, sharing inside jokes, and all the while making more memories.

That joyful noise was the song you sang while you cooked and cleaned—adding love and tenderness to everything.

That joyful noise was the modest clamor of a small island—friends stopping to chat in the road, the conch shell announcing the return of a fishing boat, children on their way to school, cars passing, and always—from somewhere…music.

That joyful noise was the percussion of the crashing waves as we absorbed the heat from the sun, letting it charge us up like batteries while the sea breeze cooled us down.

That joyful noise was the chorus of I love yous paired with kisses and hugs as we bid each other farewell—whether for days, weeks, or many months.
